What Inspires You?
Inside of the professional sphere I see so many profiles from UX designers who are passionate about the user and the user’s experience. This couldn’t make me happier. I genuinely love that designers are so user driven. I often wonder what the passions of other designers are. How do we stay inspired when we’re constantly keeping up with trends, data, and cutting edge designs for our users. What about you? Personally in your private life, what makes you tick? Where does your passion catch its flame from that smoldering ember in life?
Personally, I love nature. Probably to the point where anyone can find me earthing outside, hanging in a hammock away from the world or in a mind stretching book leaning against a tree. Living in Austin, none of this is weird. People walk barefoot in a lot of parks here, adults play by doing acro yoga, frisbee golf, and hula hooping. There is no weirdness in the things that inspire us. It’s what fuels our creativity, it feeds our passion and it births new designs into the world.
Believe me, I agree with staying up to date with the latest design trends and am just as passionate about them. However, what about having the space for your mind to create a new trend.
After all, how effective can we really be without the balance of our own inspired passions when we are bombarded by technology and it’s relentless gift of information. We need inspiration to continue to solve the design problems, to continue to create, and to continue to iterate on our own creations.
Personally this process refreshes me. I know I need the ebb and flow, the input and output of creative problem solving. Maybe that’s what drives you? Finding the answers, solutions, going back to the drawing board, the research, and then the drawing board again.
