Gaudi Inspiration

Using nature as a design tool has to be one of the more innovative ways of creative thinking that I’ve ever seen.

This concept is expressed perfectly in the architecture of Antonio Gaudi in Barcelona, Spain. This architect spent so much time observing nature that he decided to recreate it in his architecture. Besides La Sagrada Familia, his second most famous building is La Pedrera simply because he recreated a building using absolutely NO straight lines. His building mimics nature perfectly since there are no straight lines or right angles in nature.

La Pedrera (Casa Mila)

If the future holds a more eco-conscious vision for the world then why not design accordingly as creators? Why not push our designs to the limit using the inspiration of the natural world around us? Are there ways to prepare and design accordingly to move with the flow of change instead of adding to the resistance of where it’s taking us. Similar to the rivers that flow throughout nature carving their way into the earth should design also move with the current instead of going against the grain?
